Your stay abroad
Many academics use the opportunity to combine their research and teaching with a stay abroad. It sharpens your idea of how your research field is represented in other countries or cultures, it leads to new professional perspectives, and it is an important prerequisite to establish partnerships with scholars and institutes abroad. Besides, a stay abroad encourages your ability to embrace other cultures, and it improves your own language skills.
DAAD awards scholarships for doctoral students, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and DAAD award scholarships for postdoctoral students who want to go abroad. If you choose an Eastern European country for your research stay, BayHOST offers mobility grants. The scholarships of the Minerva Foundation are available for research projects in Israel, and the institutes of the Max Weber Foundation also offer scholarship programmes.
Teaching secondment
A number of funding programmes offer teaching secondments for academic employees of German universities abroad. Please check the programmes of DAAD (in German only), but also some regionally and thematically restricted funding institutions and programmes. A teaching secondment can also be performed within the framework of Erasmus+ partner universities. It can also be part of a collaborative project. We are happy to advise you about the opportunities of applying for a collaborative project.
If you would like to invite a guest lecturer to the chair you are affiliated to, DAAD and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offer a range of scholarships, and again, some regionally and thematically restricted institutions and programmes offer funding, as well.
