The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) honors Prof. Dr. Heike Paul, chair of American Studies, with the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize 2018. The Leibniz Prize is the most significant research prize in Germany. In addition to her scientific achievements, the award also recognizes her high level of international visibility and her outstanding role as a transatlantic networker.

From 14.-16. In February 2018, an international conference on "Apocalyptic Otherness: 'They are Gog and Magog, gathered together for Battle'. Scyths, Arabs, or the US Army? "will take place. The conference hosts internationally top-level scholars and will deal with the biblical origins of the Gog-und-Magog motif and its further reception and development in the Occident.

Received opinion in linguistic research believed that a universal grammar did exist. Ewa Dąbrowska is one of the most prominent opponents to this approach. Now she has been awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Professorship. With a value of 3.5 million EUR, Dąbrowska can now continue her scientific work at FAU.

In 2017, the 500th anniversary of the Reformation will be celebrated. This provides an opportunity for curators, museologists, (art) historians and theologians to comparatively analyse the different exhibitions. A Museology Workshop is addressed to young scholars with intended careers as curators, (art) historians and theologians, who would like to work on the propagation and transfer of scholarly knowledge.
